Real island camping

Camping in Oman, on an island instead of the desert

This is real camping: a night in a tent on the sand, with the sea a few steps away and the stars overhead. It isn’t a hotel, and that is the point.

What you get

A simple, comfortable camp

A tent with mattresses, pillows and blankets, shade and chairs, lights, toilets and showers on the island, all your meals, kayaks and paddle boards on request, and a crew member who stays near the camp all night.

What it isn’t

Not a hotel

There is no air conditioning and there are no rooms. The island is not private: other camps may be on the same beach. If you would rather sleep in a bed with AC, a day trip and a night back at your hotel will suit you better.

Who loves it

Couples, friends and families

Anyone happy to swap a hotel room for sand, sea and stars for one night. Couples get their own tent, and families tell us how they want to share.

The plan

Your two days on the island

Sunset and sunrise times move through the season, so those times are approximate.

Day 1

  1. 13:20 · Meet at Seeb Marina

Free public parking at the marina. Come in modest clothes; you can change into swimwear on board.

  2. 13:30 · Boat to the islands

About 25 to 30 minutes across the sea.

  3. 14:30 · Snorkeling and swimming

Masks and life jackets for everyone. Turtles are common around the reefs, though never guaranteed.

  4. 15:30 to 16:00 · Arrive at the campsite

Beach stop, settle into your tent, freshen up and shower. Kayaks and paddle boards are available on request.

  5. About 17:30 · Sunset

Watch the sun go down over the sea.

  6. 20:00 · Beachside BBQ dinner

Meat and chicken, sometimes sausages or hot dogs for children. Vegetarian and vegan options on request.

  7. 22:00 to 23:00 · Bioluminescence and turtles

Look for the blue glow in the water (best in January). The crew go looking for turtles and tell you if they find one. Both are natural, so never guaranteed.

Day 2

  1. 05:30 · Sunrise walk

An easy walk around the island as the sun comes up, fine for children and older guests.

  2. 07:00 · Breakfast

Toast, omelette, cheese, salad, tea and coffee at the camp.

  3. 08:00 · Morning snorkeling

One more snorkel and swim before you leave.

  4. 12:30 · Leave the island

Back at Seeb Marina about 30 minutes later.

The night

Your tent, your food and a night under the stars

After dinner the beach goes quiet. Away from the city lights the sky is full of stars, and on some nights the water glows blue when it moves. That glow is bioluminescence: tiny sea creatures that light up. It is best in January, but nature decides when it appears, so we can’t promise it.

Nights are quiet: other camps share the island, so there is no music after dark, only small lights, and no campfires. One of our crew stays near the camp all night, there is an emergency boat on the island, and the Omantel phone network works there.

Your tent

Family tents fit four adults easily, and smaller tents sleep one or two. Mattresses (some are air mattresses), pillows and blankets are included. Couples get their own tent, and families can share a big tent or have tents side by side.

Toilets and showers

The island has six public toilets and showers, shared with the other camps, so you can freshen up after snorkeling and before dinner.

Food and drinks

BBQ dinner, breakfast, snacks like chips and chocolate, and tea or coffee whenever you want. Vegetarian and vegan on request. You can bring your own food too, and there is a cool box.

Phones and safety

Portable chargers, lights and torches are provided. The crew carry a first aid kit, and equipment is cleaned between uses. Bring any personal medicine you need.

Questions

Questions about island camping

How much does island camping cost?

100 OMR per adult, 50 OMR per child aged 3 to 12 and 10 OMR per under-3, plus 5% VAT. Two adults pay 210 OMR in total, and two adults with two children pay 315 OMR. The boat, permits, tent, meals and snorkel gear are included.

Can you camp on the Daymaniyat Islands?

Yes, from November to April, on a trip like ours. From May to October the beaches are closed while sea turtles nest, so nobody camps then.

What time does the trip leave and come back?

Meet at Seeb Marina at 13:20; the boat leaves at 13:30. On day two you leave the island at 12:30 and are back at the marina about 30 minutes later.

Are there toilets and showers?

Yes. The island has six public toilets and showers, shared with the other camps.

What do we sleep in?

A tent with mattresses, pillows and blankets. Family tents fit four adults easily and smaller tents sleep one or two. Couples get their own tent, and families can share a big tent or have tents side by side.

Is it comfortable? Is there air conditioning?

It is real camping, not a hotel: there is no air conditioning and there are no rooms. You sleep in a tent on the beach with a mattress and blankets, under the stars.

What food is included?

A BBQ dinner of meat and chicken (sometimes sausages or hot dogs for children), a breakfast of toast, omelette, cheese and salad, snacks, and tea or coffee whenever you like. Vegetarian and vegan options are available on request.

Can we bring our own food and drinks? Is alcohol allowed?

Yes, you can bring any food of your own, and there is a cool box. Alcohol is allowed in moderation: please drink to one side and don’t disturb other guests.

Is there phone signal, and can I charge my phone?

The Omantel network works on the island, and portable chargers are provided.

Is it cold at night? Are there mosquitoes?

Nights can be cold, especially from December to February, so bring a jacket. Our crew don’t see mosquitoes or insects on the island, so you won’t need repellent.

Is someone there at night?

Yes. One of our crew stays near the camp all night, and there is an emergency boat on the island.

Will we see bioluminescence or turtles?

Bioluminescence, the blue glow in the water, is best in January. At around 22:00 to 23:00 the crew go looking for turtles and tell you if they find one. Both are natural and change from night to night, so we can’t guarantee them.

Can children come?

Yes. Children aged 3 to 12 pay 50 OMR and under-3s pay 10 OMR, plus VAT. The morning island walk is easy for children. Children stay with an adult at all times, and parents of babies should bring a well-fitting infant life jacket.

Will we have the island to ourselves?

No. Other camps or visitors may be on the same island. Booking camping doesn’t mean the whole island is private.

Can we stay two or three nights?

Yes, as a custom package with extra nights, meals and snorkel trips. Send us your dates on WhatsApp for a quote.

What should I bring?

Swimwear, a towel, sunscreen, toiletries, a change of clothes, a jacket for the night and any personal medicine. Tents, bedding, food, lights and snorkel gear are provided.

What happens if the weather is bad?

If we cancel before the trip because of the weather or the sea, you get a full refund or a new date. If the weather turns during the night and we have to bring you back early, you get a partial refund, depending on how much of the trip you had. If you cancel more than 48 hours before departure you get 50% back, less a 5% payment fee; within 48 hours it is non-refundable.

Are pets allowed?

No, pets can’t come on the camping trip.
